Out of Character Calls
Various Out of character calls may be used during the course of an adventure, these are given below including the effects of each and who may use each call
Man Down
Time In
Time Out
Time Stop
Time Pause
Local Time In
Man Down
Man Down indicates that a real injury or medical condition has occured, All roleplay is suspended once this is called until the affected player is in a suitable condition to continue (or is otherwise catered for, e.g. by dropping out for a while with a 1st aider)
Any Player may use this call if they are injured or otherwise taken ill, or if they notice someone else is.
Time In
Time in is used to start an adventure session, or to cancel any suspensions of roleplay. Whilst Time in is in effect effort should be made to remain in character.
Generally this is a Ref only call, however in the case of a man down call the injured player may also use it to indicate they are able to continue.
Time Out
This call will indicate one of two things, in either case roleplaying should be stopped after it has been called
The end of the adventure, this will normally be the case
A major change of location (OOC) and scene (IC), this will only happen very rarely
This call will only be used by Refs
Time Stop
Time stop suspends roleplay briefly whilst a special effect is put in place or an obstruction is cleared to allow to allow combat to proceed. Players playing thier characters (and monsters should it be required by the effect) should remain where they were when the time stop was called with thier eyes closed and humming (preferably tunefully) until a time in is called.
This call will be used by Refs
Time Pause
Time pause suspends roleplay briefly whils a special effect is put into place, however unlike time stop all characters will be aware of what is happening in the direction they are looking (albeit as a motion blur to an IC observer). For the duration od a time pause characters and monsters (unless otherwise directed) will need to remain where they were when it was called, additionally any weapons/shields should be kept (as much as possible) in the location they were as the time pause was called. Once time in is called players may react to the effect.
This call may be used by anyone with a suitable skill to call the effect as well as by Refs, it is however a rare event.
Local Time In (or Time Faff)
Local time in is used to pause the OOC progress of a character party whilst an encounter is set up. During the local time in players may (and are advised to) continue to roleplay with each other and any NPCs or monsters in the same vicinity, this can include continuing or starting combats so long as they remain confined to the area of the local time in. Normal movement may be resumed once time in is called.
This call will only be used by Refs
